~ Wells Kelly Movie
Futurband Records - Recording Company
Futurband
Records was originated in the early 80's when Matt Jordan met Wells
Kelly, former drummer of "Orleans." Futurband Records
produced four songs written by Wells, two of which made the radio,
"Givin It Up," and "Sometimes Love," which is the
theme song and name of the movie about the life and tragic death of
Wells Kelly.
Prior to the 80's, most bands went to major record labels with rough
"demos" usually four, seeking both a contract deal and
funding to complete their album(s) for a major. As bands became more
abundant, and a few major acts began forming their own record
companies to increase their profits, independent distributor
companies were created. Many of these are listed on the internet.
They formed to distribute and sell the records through all possible sources.
Some of the major record companies like Columbia, now Sony, formed
distributor divisions to sell records for the minor companies. For
example, Columbia distributed Hammond Records. They would either buy
completed masters, or they accepted manufactured copies, together
with art work, sleeves, etc. These copies are taken over by purchase,
or by "consignment."
There are many talents necessary for a record production, with
successful sales and air play. To name a few, there are producers,
engineers, mastering experts, promoters, agents, personal and
business managers, etc. Also, there are many issues to be resolved
such as copyrights, advances, royalties, recoupment of costs,
recovery, synchronization, mechanical song licensing, budgets, etc.

Business," by Donald S. Passman, attorney. Other advise is to
get a qualified, proven, music attorney before you sign ANYTHING WITH ANYONE.
